Tourist in my own town

Shops

Mom and I strolled around downtown Skaneateles Saturday and took in some sights.

Pets

You could not buy a quart of milk or a loaf of bread in the village center if your life depended on it. We do, however, have a pet boutique. Note water bowl out front. Nice touch.

Big house

When we moved here, we thought it would be fun to live in a mansion with a lake view.

Martin house

Then we discovered the size of house on the lake that we'd be able to afford.

Park

And really, would we want to wake up to this view every morning?

Flowers

My flowers never look this good. In my defense, however, this is in front of the flower shop.

Gallery

This time of year, the village is jammed with tourists. It's annoying if you're a year-round resident. It's no fun to be stuck in traffic or unable to find parking when all you want to do is go to the bank or get your hair cut.

Clock tower

But if once or twice each summer, you can stop rushing from one errand to the next and take a good look around, you realize that being a tourist isn't so bad after all.

p.s. Before I forget - go visit my friend Linda at My Vintage Soul if you want a chance to win some tacky lovely craft supplies! The deadline is Monday, so hurry.

I love these photo's of Skaneateles. Yes I can really understand those tourists! In touristic villages in France they lock up the centre for tourists. Only french cars of the region or village can park in the centre. Yep the French sure know how to treat their guests! We went to Saint Malo 2 or 3 times without being able to park our car and to visit the town. It is said to be beautiful. Perhaps we check it some Monday in February! Have a nice Sunday in Skaneateles!

I'm glad to hear that we're not the only ones that occassionally play 'tourist in our backyard'!! On Holiday weekends, when we have stayed home and worked diligently on house/yard projects DH & I have been known to take 'mini-vacations' by heading to Skaneateles for a good dinner at The Blue Water and then a stroll around the village and into the shoppes - of course, topping it all of with an ice-cream and a walk on the pier!! Your photos are GREAT!

Wow, I would like to be a tourist in your hometown, it looks great!
My current hometown is not much fun, but I used to live in Gouda. I hated the cheesemarkets in summer (blocking my way to the normal market), but now I kind of miss it. Maybe I'll go and visit it one of these weeks...

What a lovely stroll! xo, suzy

Such a pretty place!!! I love it!!

What a gorgeous place! I would love to go inside that flower shop.

How quaint! Thank you so much for the tour. :)

Love your pictures- looks like a great day-I love to shop at "downtowns"- where you actually walk along a sidewalk from shop to shop.

Oh to be off of the sofa and visiting picturesque little towns... We love Aristocats and Dogs. Cadbury is usually with us and he is welcome there. He does love to shop for treats...

What a pretty town and that lake! That's the fanciest birdhouse. I've missed several posts & just saw your picnic table of yummy vintage dishes of red, green, yellow...I recently found a small red pyrex casserole dish - my cabinet is getting packed with pyrex. :) It started with the big yellow bowl I found at a thrift store 2 yrs ago...we had one growing up and it was always the bowl my mom used to make potato salad. I think everyone in America must have owned this big yellow pyrex bowl.

Can I rent a room from you please?? I want to live in your town.

What a beautiful place thanks for the tour
