This was my destination Saturday, but not for the reason you might think.
The delightful Vicki (in the back in the center) invited a bunch of us upstate bloggers to meet for tea and a little antiquing. Mary Ellen (in front at the right) described it as a blind date. We managed to work through the awkward silences and stilted small talk that can make those first encounters so nerve-wracking, because we were talking over tea and little sandwiches and desserts for 3 1/2 hours!
Sondra (in back on the left) and Nicky (in front, next to Mary Ellen) regaled us with estate sale stories. Mary Ellen illustrated her tales with the props she brought, including the World's Largest Slipper that she is knitting and a framed picture of her grandson. Vicki had all kinds of stories, but we never tire of hearing about her brand-new twins. All of them are so artistic and talented, blending their creative endeavors with their professional lives.
We exchanged goodies, too: a vintage apron from Mary Ellen, wrapped with a little acorn charm, a sparkly heart topped with a vintage earring from Sondra, a felted leaf and velvet acorn from Vicki, and in the lower right corner one of the mirrors that Susan makes with vintage wallpaper. She wasn't able to come, but I hope we'll get to meet one of these days. Nicky filled the glass jar with candy, but it, um, disappeared before the photo was taken. I'll be honest: It disappeared on the ride home. Driving can make you hungry.
Fortunately, there was just enough time to make a trip through the antique barn, which was packed with great vintage treasures that antique shops in my area don't seem to favor. I picked up a couple of Gurley snowmen, a big Gurley turkey candle, and a sparkly cardboard church that had a flea-market price tag. Then I drove like a madwoman back home to pick up my daughter to go to a big horse show in Syracuse, and you know who we saw there?

It's true. You might read about it in the tabloids, but you're hearing it from me first: Bruce Springsteen and I did the same thing Saturday night. We each took a daughter to the horse show.

Meeting blog friends is soooo fun! I just got the chance today to do the same! WISH I could say I also rubbed elbows with The BOSS...but no such luck!

I already saw the photo at Vicki's but she didn't tell who was who. I asked her but she didn't have time to answer me yet, which surprises nobody. Having twins is an excuse for almost anything is my opinion. So you are the one in the purple cardigan, it's nice to meet you!

YOU SAW BRUCE SPRINGSTEEN AT A HORSE SHOW?! Get out! I've seen him at a few concerts but his name was on the tickets and I was in the cheap seats. Actually, he came onstage during a John Mellencamp encore once and again at a Tom Petty show, so maybe he was stalking me or something. And, both times I thought the audience was boo-ing when they were yelling for Brooooce. How fun that you got to meet your blog friends and look at the lovely presents!

I'd call that a full day. It was so nice to meet you and I hope with all my heart that we get a chance to do it again. Maybe in your neck of the woods? (hint, hint...)

I gotta tell you, nice post, nice finds, but you travel in the same social circles as Bruce??? That's priceless.

I love the turkey candle! I bet he's heavy! I also love that smowman. They have one at a local flea market but I haven't wanted to pay what they want for him. Although seeing him look so cute in your collection makes me want him all the more!

I just now found out that I regularly read the blog of one of the ladies you met (Mary Ellen). Who knew? It's a small world after all.

Awkward silence? The girls in Texas must like to talk then... blah, blah, blah! :) There wasn't a silent moment when we all got together. It was almost like we had known each other forever. You must of had a couple of shy ones in the group. But it definitely looks like fun. I would love to get together with the girls and go shopping. Normally we just craft together. xoxo, Joanna

Looks like you had fun! While traveling once, I saw a group of women exchanging presents at a Cracker Barrel restruant. I couldn't keep my eyes off of them! I wished I would have been at their table! :>
