It has been months since I've made anything except dinner. I am so rusty that the other night I was trying to put together some simple little Halloween decoration, and I puzzled over how to attach two pieces of paper. Then it dawned on me. A glue stick. I could use a glue stick to glue the paper.
It was clear I needed to recharge, so on Saturday, I took my parents on a drive, and we went to a nearby quilt store. If I couldn't find anything inspiring there, I knew I was in trouble. I left with this book. I don't quilt, but I had to have the pattern in it for a hat-shaped hatpin holder. There was one on display at the quilt store, and I couldn't wait to get home and make one.
Mine is sort of similar yet somewhat different from the one in the book. (I'm not great about sticking exactly to directions.) It was a great pattern, and the hat was easy to make. I particularly loved decorating it. I got out my millinery flowers, the box of doo-dads with the spun cotton mushrooms, the chenille bumblebee, the buttons ... great fun.
I've got another one started, to decorate in a different way. It feels good to be making things again.
Too cute. Is it displayed on a candle stick or is that part of the design?

That is really cute. And I love that you bought a quilt book but don't quilt (kind of like me and the sewing books I can't resist).

I come here because your blog is full of inspiration! You may not think of your posts as creative, but they are candy for my eyes and food for my creative soul!

I love it! Here I have seen these in the past (I try to say that this is vintage) with a ring attached so you can hang your little hat near your sewing table (if you have one of course). I think this is the first thing I see here that you have made. But you are always so busy treasure hunting and posting for us, so you are excused of course!

I think it's absolutely adorable! I've been in kind of a slump lately too. I sit at my craft table and just stare at all my junk...thinking where do I start!!!

I love the tiny mushrooms. Don't mean to bug you but I am so hoping that you'll make the trek from your lovely home and meet us for tea on Saturday. The antique barn next door is chock full of the kinds of things you like....

I love your glue-stick duh moment! The hat is adorable. I would have never thought of that fabric, and yet, I just love the look of it.

Barbara, I love your hat. It's charming. I hope you will continue to make more things and show them to us, though I know how hard it can be sometimes. I've been trying to get back to a more creative life again, and I feel very rusty too. I'm enjoying it though. I'm a big fan of the Need'l Love books, but I don't have that one. There is another one though, that I do have, and it has a hat in it too. I don't think it's a pincushion. I think it's bigger, but I could reduce it. I'll have to take another look at it! Thank you for the inspiration.
