Every day it's the same routine: get dressed, get the dog outside, walk down the long drive and get the paper.
But some mornings, like today, it occurs to me that what is routine is pretty great. Every morning I see the sun coming up over the hill and the deer browsing in the field across the road. Every morning I hear birds. This time of year, it's surround-sound waterfowl, the ducks on the pond to the west, the geese on the pond to the east.
Maybe this morning it was the frost coating the leaves, or the cold air snapping my senses to attention, or waking up remembering that my parents just arrived and the five people I love best are all sleeping under the same roof. Or maybe for no reason at all. But today started out with a reminder that the best days aren't extraordinary but everyday.
What a beautiful place you have. Enjoy the great fall weather with the parents!

You always post the most beautiful eye candy, whether it's from nature or the thrift store! This one reminded me of this thought by Mary Jean Iron. Are you familiar with it?
Average Day
Normal day, let me be aware of the treasure you are. Let me learn from you, love you, bless you before you depart. Let me not pass you by in quest of some rare and perfect tomorrow. Let me hold you while I may, for it may not always be so. One day I shall dig my nails into the earth, or bury my face in the pillow, or stretch myself taut, or raise my hands to the sky and want, more than all the world, your return.

This is such a wonderful post. The thing that I wish for most and we do not get here in CA is that season change into fall that include color full leaves and frost kissed mornings. For these things I have to live vicariously through people like you. Thank you for sharing your appreciation for the beauty outside your front door.

What a wonderful post, Barbara. That is a beautiful walk you have down your driveway and the trees are absolutely gorgeous. I completely agree with your thoughts. Lately I have been gaining a new appreciation for ordinary days.

What a beautiful Fall driveway! I love the warm feel of it. I miss the big trees of our old house, but not the 85 bags of leaves we had to rake up! :)
