In
this
house
there's
almost
no
such
thing
as
new
furniture.
Everything is either hauled home from a sale or out of the shed, and that's really OK with me. The hutch is the latest addition to the dining room, and it's as close as we get to actually new. The shelves on the top came from the desk I had growing up. The bottom is a basic pine cabinet that came from the unfinished furniture store. A couple of coats of primer and paint later, and the two pieces look as if they've always been together.
The top of the cabinet (where the scale is) is kind of a work in progress. Not sure what's going to end up there. I like the shelves so far, though. I'm attempting to replicate that kind of British cottage / stacks of plates / mismatched china / cup of tea anytime look, while not looking too cluttered and yet saving some space for what I hope will be treasures from the sale season ahead. (How's that for multiple goals?)
The little plates with the flowers on the right are my favorite china pattern. I'm not in the market for a new set of dishes, but I sure will scoop up anything I find in this pattern.
The little plates and this dresser scarf, which is on the top of the hutch, helped me figure out my favorite color scheme: green, and every other color.
I love the spring-y look of your shelves. Do the squarish green plates actually have a floral center?
Now, I want some deviled eggs!

I love your hutch, especially the pretty detail at the top. I'm with you: nothing much new comes in this house! Except for the Ikea bookcase. Ick! But I was desperate, I couldn't find a nice old one! Do you know the name of that cute china pattern? Did you get them at a garage sale? Sorry, but I would have wrestled you to the ground for those!

I can see why you like that china pattern. Very pretty! The hutch is great. I would have never guessed it was 2 separate pieces.

I love that china pattern, too! I think you would have had more than one person wrestling you to the ground for it. Can you tell me the name of it?

Always so pretty and so colorful and cheery. You have it right. Your house should cheer you up! I, too like that cup of tea any time look. In fact, I may just go and make a cup of tea now. You'll have to give me a list of your favorite flea market/antiques/thrift haunts for future road trips with the twins this summer. I promise to only go once so there are plenty of treasures left.

I love seeing all you do with your treasures. The hutch and the way you have pretty things displayed in it has to be my favorite.

Is this hutch the one that we see again and again with the most beautiful vintage seasonal decorations? Anyhow I love this and I love homes with a lot of make over furniture.
You are my best student! Ateliertje is perfect!
