These ties came from an estate sale I went to Sunday. I used to work for someone who wore a bow tie every day. You'd probably think that somebody who wears a bow tie every day is an old fusspot.
In this case, you'd be absolutely right. I could devote a blog just to his eccentricities, but I'll tell you just one story: Once upon a time, he was interviewed on television. Later, someone who saw the interview complimented him on his blue shirt. He was stunned. "How did you know it was blue?" he asked. He was unaware of the exciting new technology known as "color television." This occurred less than 10 years ago.
I don't work for him any more, so I can buy bow ties without shuddering. My husband continues to resist the temptation to wear bow ties himself, so I'll sell these. I'm secretly hoping my old boss buys them, and I can tack on a hefty pain and suffering charge.
I bought a fair amount of stuff at the sale, the most boring of which (I don't know why I took this picture) are these two highly practical items. Am I the only person who a) cannot resist any gummed label produced by Dennison and b) feels a decent stapler hasn't been produced in 25 years?
Also from the sale, and just in time for the 40th anniversary of man landing on the moon: a very cool astronaut Christmas ornament.
I have so much stuff to find a home for from this weekend's shopping, but if you look at the comments from yesterday, you'll see I'm under orders to produce photos of vintage Halloween goods. ASAP!
I agree with the majority and I especially would like a photo of you wearing that witch hat!
I love that astronaut. What a time it was! And you cracked me up (Monday morning) with your story of your eccentric ex-boss. Thanks

How funny you should post about ties! I was just working on an upcoming post about neckties. I really enjoyed this! And those bow ties are lovely.

I am so with you on the vintage staplers. Can't pass them up. I have purchased many over the years...usually for a quarter. Still can never find one when I am looking for one at home...Why is that?

I find bow ties exciting, but I don't think I could take any man who wears them seriously.
That astronaut looks part caterpillar! Too good.
