It's been so long (months!) since I've been to a sale that when I went to one over the weekend, I kind of forgot what to do. I saw this little notepad holder, for example, and thought it was sweet. It took a few moments before I realized that I could pick it up, see if it was priced reasonably, and, if it was, purchase it. I never realized that vintage shopping skills could become rusty. Let my close call be a lesson for us all.
I rallied somewhat after that and found a Pyrex casserole in the Friendship pattern. My friend who collects this (you know who you are!) gets first dibs.
Cute little salt and pepper set.
I love these ones - Lefton pine cones. I'd like a whole set of pinecone dishes to go with them.
And a stack of crocheted aprons, but I'm embarrassed at how terrible the photo is, so it's little.
Also, there's a Wilendur rose tablecloth in the dryer. And several strands of glass bead garland, but I'm pretty much done with looking at anything Christmas related for a while, so I put it away, unphotographed.
For the first outing of the year, after a long drought, it was an OK sale. And having discovered how rusty my shopping skills have become, I've resolved to really work on them in the new year.
I love that New Years resolution - attend more sales and keep your skills sharp - you go girl!!

Finally, a NY's resolution that will be fun and easy to keep! I love it!

I bet those crocheted aprons are great. My collection has been sorely lacking new additions for too many years. Are you going to do a post just on aprons? Nifty finds, btw. Keep those skills up. We need the eye candy!

The good news about our "shopping skills," is that they are not gone and bounce back quickly enough. The point is to enjoy not just spend.

Well I am glad you were able to climb back in the saddle again...soon you will be galloping in true Barbara style. Good finds....especially the unphotographed glass garland.

I know what you mean. I got a flu bug on Christmas day, so I haven't thrifted for about a month. I've been feeling like I forgot how to junk shop, though I imagine my Jeep will automatically drive me to Goodwill without me even trying, as it has its own GPS (Goodwill Positioning System)......:)

You cracked through all of that rust in a big way! My plan this year is to widen my estate sale area to several other towns, and use my van as a shed to hold it all if I have to!

I am not even going to tell you how much these little lovelies made me smile. My first estate sale this year was a wash. The thrift stores today were dull. At long last I ended up at the flea market with some lovely prices and a little bit of vintage lot. Thanks for giving me the idea that there still might be something out there...smiles...Renee

Nice finds! Just click on that little apron pic and it becomes huge. I can count the stitches on those beauties.

Gracious those skills must be top notch. You have to attend a whole bunch of sales (haven't you always wanted someone to tell you that?) I love your recent finds, and I love your recent post on toys. Our barn is FULL!

At least you have sales to hit. It's been dead here... I want spring to come sooo badly!!!

Thanks for this cautionary post. I'm twiddling my thumbs waiting for yard sale season to begin -- I hope I'll remember what to do when it arrives. I'm going to review my manual this weekend just in case.
I swear I'm not making this up but I too bought a Wilendur rose tablecloth today...

I have the friendship pattern on some round mixing bowls that my closest friend gave me for my bridal shower so long ago!

I have about 5 or 6 crocheted aprons. I love them. I try to find ones in different colors than what I have but it seems a lot of women liked red. Not that there is anything wrong with that. I love red.
I love your posts and have purchased things from your etsy shop. do you still have it and your ebay? pam

Hi, Jeananne - thank you so much for your note! I was hoping to update my blog this week - its been far too long. Everything here is good, just busy with non-blogworthy stuff! Thanks for thinking of me. Barbara

Hi, Ms. Oodles. I've been checking in, and was starting to get a little worried for your sake. Glad to hear that it's just a case of being busy with ordinary old stuff. Take care!
