This hasn't been a banner summer for sales (I'm getting the impression that's the case elsewhere as well), and I was happy to find even a few things Friday. (Including two feedsacks, hurray!)
At least on Saturday there was one sale where I could buy in bulk. As in a large supply of rickrack and such.
And a box full of patterns. As you may recall, I have a very strict no-more-vintage-patterns policy, which is violated only when a very specific set of criteria is met.
OK, actually there were two boxes of patterns. But they met the following criteria: Lots of 'em. In good shape. Lots of really old ones, even some from the 1930s. And really inexpensive.
Also in their favor: patterns for way-to-cute kids clothes. (A puppy romper? Really?)
Gorgeous old Vogue dresses, and something I've never seen before.
Vintage costume patterns. For pretty much every occasion.
There were a number of really awful sales the past few days, too. One was an auction at a farm where there were three barns, and the advertisement promised that no one had been inside the barns for years. I knew this could be really great, or just terrible. The really great scenario involved thousands of feedsacks tucked away and forgotten. Unfortunately, that was not the case, and as I was walking through one of the barns, I encountered a large animal skull on the ground. I have a very, very high tolerance for dirt and disarray, but I draw a firm line at animal remains. I encourage all of you to adopt similarly high standards.
One more note, and a few more photos, and I'll let you get on with your week: I'm having a hard time keeping up with blog posts lately, and I kind of expect this to continue over the summer, so I'm sort of thinking of doing more on Facebook. Where you would have seen these.
Vintage pink bottle brush goodness from the great state of Ohio.
And/or Instagram. And I know I should try to love Pinterest more. I just don't know. Sometimes when only a photo is needed, any or all of these seem to make sense. Your thoughts on this are appreciated.
Of all the stuff I bought this weekend, none pleased me more than this glass lamp shade. It fits perfectly into the pendant light fixture I bought some time ago, with every intention of replacing the cheap glass shade that came with it. It looks so much better, and it cost about fifty cents.
Finally, this, from a box of greeting cards. Happy wishes for the week ahead, friends!
I love reading your blog, and I understand how busy summer can be but my vote is for the blog. I don't do any of the things you mentioned. : )

I love reading your blog an hope you will continue to post, even if less frequently. I absolutely understand about busy.
I have a strong distaste for FB and closed my account over a year ago. I adore Pinterest but love what you have to say!
I have the same criteria on the patterns and looks like you made a real haul. I would have let those in, too!

Hi there. I love your blog. I don't do the other things either. I visit your blog for your text as much as the photos. But, you have to do what's best for you, of course. That Black-eyed Susan pin is so cheerful.

The sales have been crummy here too. And I am also having a hard time keeping up with blog posts. I don't do FB or Pinterest or Instagram. My only excuse I guess is that I'm having too much fun playing outside!

I was just saying on my last post that the sales here have been really blah, nothing compared to past years. Laurie over at Magpie Ethel said the same thing is happening to her. It's an epidemic! I hope you don't stray away too far from your blog. I am probably one of the only people in their 30's who don't do Facebook or Instagram. Now Pinterest? That is an addiction for me & I already follow you there:-)
Have a great week!

Always love seeing the feed sacks you pick up!! ;) I am more of a Pinterest and blog. Summer is definitely a slower time in blogging, but that is okay! So enjoy those beautiful summery days!! Have a lovely week! xo Heather

I have read and enjoyed your blog for quite a while. We like similar things and I love to see what you have found.
I hope you continue blogging. I rarely do Facebook and might not think to check there. I am sure there are many more that love reading your blog!

You had me at all the tinsel. Super jealous. That pendant light is absolutely fabulous too. I rarely do facebook. Pinterest is mostly my own selfish pining. I love your blog. I hope you don't give it up.

Great finds! The tinsel and pink bottle brush trees are super cool! I'm sorry to hear about the lack of good sales. Maybe they are going to heat up this fall.

I will continue to read your blog and facebook page, until you see fit to stop. Pinterest is ok ..... but I like to hear what you have to say (as well as look at your fab photos .) Ok - so I'm greedy. I should add that I LOVE the pink bottle brush collection, the lampshade and the rolls of tinsel a ton ! Thanks for sharing.... as always !

Buying in bulk is the very best way to buy, in my opinion! Love the colorful rick-rack and array of tinsel....

Oooh, I love that glass shade! Your bulk purchase of rick rack, seam binding and such is increasing my heart rate. So much easier than a true workout!

Another one who enjoys your blog writing. So I vote for mainly blog. I sometimes use Pinterest or Facebook, but don't stop by those as much.

Is it possible we have all managed to buy the good stuff LOL....I hear ya. And I ABSOLUTELY love your pattern scores - rules are made to be broken. Here are my thoughts on all the social media stuff...
I use FB for those :instant: moments I want to share with my Peeps - Blog when I want to get into the story and Pintrest - well personally I cant stand it and am distressed how frequently it gets abused. I use it strictly now when I find an idea I want to come back to and that's about it (like how to paint closet doors - that was a fun one) Anyway just me - B I will follow you wherever you go (heh is that a song :> )

I have this fantasy that I'm driving down a country road and there's a handmade sign sitting at the entrance of a driveway that reads: "We have all this stuff from the 1930s and 40s which we've never used. You haul and it's yours."
But I too would draw the line at animal remains.
